Run the Oxford Parks – try orienteering at Cutteslowe Park

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

Try a run with a difference! Orienteering is a great sport for all ages and abilities – there will be several courses from 2km to 5km plus, suitable for runners and newcomers and also families.

You will receive a special orienteering map showing your chosen course which will consist of a series of control points around the park. The challenge is to visit these checkpoints in order, as quickly as you can, choosing your route between each one using the map and registering each control with an electronic timing chip that we will lend you (as used in adventure racing). You’ll get a print out of your split times around the course at the finish, so bring your friends so you can compare times! Overall results are published on our website later that day.

Come along any time between 10am and 11.30am and give it a go. You can start a course any time up until midday. Courses close at 1pm. Cost is only £5 for adults and £2 for juniors (under 21) and students.

This event is around Cutteslowe and Sunnymead Parks in Oxford, with courses from 2km to around 5km. These are straight line distances around the course, between the control points, so you will run/walk further! Courses normally take around 30 to 75 minutes to complete.

Help and guidance will be available for those that are new to the sport. Just wear whatever you would for a run or walk in the park and don’t forget your sense of adventure!

Subsequent events include University Parks (central Oxford) on Sat 11 Jan 2014 and Shotover Country Park (east Oxford) on Sat 15 Feb 2014.
